... Talking of contractors, wasn't the brief flirtation by the US Administration of closing down Guantanamo Bay intriguing? A story on June 9 had President Bush saying he was ready to examine alternatives to the Cuba base. Yet according to Dick Cheney, that was the silliest idea he'd ever heard. The whole thing suddenly went off the agenda and then last Thursday it was announced that Halliburton's subsidiary, with the disturbing name of Kellogg Brown & Root, had been awarded a contract to build an improved 220-bed prison for terrorists at Guantanamo Bay. How well oiled is that? ...
